For Another Path supports Active Travel Coalition

Members of For Another Path, along with other community groups in the area, have been supporting Sustrans in their consultation for the Active Travel Delivery Plan in Northern Ireland.

We wish to fully engage with Sustrans, Council, DfI and other agencies in order to improve the dire conditions in which people are expected to walk, cycle and wheel in our borough.

It is clear that priority is given to conditions for motoring, over and above public transport and active travel. We wish to do something about this.

One way you can help is to log into NI Active Travel Community Map. It is easy to create an account, and then as and when you experience difficulty on any area, or have ideas for improvement, you can log in and add your thoughts.

About the Coalition

The Ards and North Down Coalition for Active Travel (ANDCAT) comprises diverse local groups with a shared interest: Northern Ireland must respond to the challenges of climate change while simultaneously increasing green space for nature.

ANDCAT supports safe and accessible active travel wherever possible and hopes to influence public policy. We will provide a cohesive community response to any consultation for the Department for Infrastructure’s Draft Active Travel Plan for Northern Ireland, with the aim of protecting the natural environment in all future infrastructure development.

We recognise the many transport needs in the borough: walkers, cyclists and wheelers, motorists and those who use public transport will differ in their views on how the current infrastructure could be improved. But with consultation and careful planning and investment, more people will be able to participate in active travel, with all the accompanying benefits of improved physical and mental health, as well as lower carbon emissions delivered for the borough.

In pursuing its mission, ANDCAT is committed to the principles of equality, fairness, diversity, collaboration and the protection of the environment and biodiversity.
